Pelican Rapids ninth-grader wins VFW art contest, heads to state

A print of Derrick Pantoja's first-place colored pencil entry — the original is already on its way to the state competition. The piece features a bald eagle, the American flag, and the opening words of the U.S. Constitution. It isn't the first time an eagle has been good to Pantoja: he won his first art award, $2, in second grade for an eagle drawing.
